Volunteer Coaching is key to the success of our program. Southwest Basketball typically fields 75+ teams in the city community league which requires approximately 150 coaches (based on 2 per team). In addition our Mites program requires between 10 and 20 helpers. We are always looking for volunteers to help out with coaching duties. PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE IS NOT A REQUIREMENT!
Southwest Basketball remains committed to helping train new and returning coaches at no cost to the volunteer. We also make sure to place less experienced coaches with the more experienced coaches to provide the opportunity to transfer skills and foster ongoing skills development.
IMPORTANT - All volunteer coaches and assistant coaches must have a valid ABA membership and complete a police information check. Upon confirmation of coaching you will receive an email with instructions on how to register yourself in RAMP and complete the police information check online. The cost of both the ABA membership and police information check are covered by SW Basketball.
CAN I USE AN EXISTING POLICE CHECK?
In the spirit of prudence SW Basketball performs police checks every year! We do not accept previous or existing police checks or police checks done by other organizations (ie: soccer, hockey, etc) regardless of the stated validity. As an organization we value of the safety of our children and will always prioritize their protection over convenience.
If you are interested in coaching, please send an email to info@southwestbasketball.com and be sure to identify your interest on the registration form.
