The 2019-20 Mites Program opens on your registered day starting on, or after, the 7th of October.

About Mites

Southwest Zone Youth Basketball is pleased to continue offering a SW Mites Basketball Program for players 6-8 years old.  The program is designed to help foster a love of the game, an appreciation for youth development in sport and an approach to coaching based on sportsmanship and respect.

Steve Sir (Father | Husband | 10 year pro | FIBA 3×3 professional | Top 3pt% in NCAA history | Alberta Basketball | Jack of some trades | User of sarcasm) leads the coaching of our mites program, and brings world class instruction, and a love of the game which provides and excellent foundation for all beginner basketball players!

The SW Mite program promotes the three S’s of Sweat, Smiles and Skills.  We believe it is important for players, parents and coaches to have a consistent foundation on which to enter the EYBA programs for older players.

Mighty Mites’ basketball has been offered in the Southwest communities for close to 20 years.  Our program has grown consistently and we now have close to 200 boys and girls playing at this level.  We offer one hour sessions each week and participation in two tournaments through the year.

Modified rules to promote a fun and positive experience for the kids include the use of a smaller ball and hoops lowered to 8 feet.

2019-20 Season

SW Mites are 6-7-8 year olds born in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Sessions are held at the Saville Community Sports Center beginning October 7, 2019 through to mid March 2020 as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday             5-6pm

Monday, Wednesday, Friday                                                  6-7pm

**Parents are to select one (1) session time to register their son/daughter in.

Sessions time is selected upon registration on a first come first serve basis.  Sessions are co-ed and we are looking for parent volunteers to help coach these groups.  Players receive a t-shirt and basketball with registration.  The sessions are run by a SW Head Coach Coordinator who will also have Program Assistants available at each session.  They will work with the parent volunteer coaches to ensure a consistent offering aimed at developing skills and having fun.

The SW Mite program also includes two tournaments through the season
